A PARTY was held in St George's Park to raise awareness of a campaign to save a well-loved paddling pool for permanent closure.

The Save Our Paddling Pool action group organised the "successful" event on Saturday (April 6), which featured a parade, Easter trail and disco.

The parade was led by the Coppice Shanti Crew, which started at St George's Club and travelled to and around St Georges Park.

The Shanti Crew then took to the bandstand and the paddling pool site to perform.

Children also took part in an Easter Egg trail. The Promenade band from Stourport also performed on the bandstand. To finish the day off, a disco was held at St George's Club.

Councillor Fran Oborski, who is the chairperson of the action group, said: "It was really successful.

"It was really to raise awareness and to get more people signing the petition.

"They made a lot of noise, had a lot of fun, and really raised the profile of the group".

In 2022, the council said that more than £100,000 was needed to repair the pool at St George's Park to ensure its future.

The council decided to mothball the final decision to allow the local community time to raise the required funds for the work.

A GoFundMe page was launched to raise funds for the pool, and a petition to the town council has received more than 1,800 signatures.

The council recently said that a final decision on the future of the pool has been put on hold until after the upcoming local election.

The group plans to present the petition to councillors during the first town council meeting following the election.

Councillor Oborski added: "The amount of money it would actually take to refurbish the pool is only a maximum of £120,000.

"It's absolute peanuts it really is, when you look at the amount of pleasure it gives.

"It's a really small amount of money for a local council to spend to give a massive amount of pleasure".

Jacqui Penn, an avid campaigner for the group, said in a post on the group's Facebook page: "Thank you so very much for joining us, sharing your memories of the pool, your disappointment in how it’s been left under the current regime and, most importantly, for signing our petition to Kidderminster Town Council to save it for future generations to enjoy".
