Businesses in Bewdley have welcomed plans to launch a new shuttle bus in the town.

Several business owners said they "strongly support" the park-and-ride service that is set to alleviate traffic and provide a boost for the area during the ongoing flood defence works.

The shuttle bus is being introduced by Bewdley Town Council and will be running every Saturday as a trial.

Owner of The Mug House Inn and Restaurant, Hossey Saghri, said: "I am totally in support of anything that will help increase footfall in Bewdley and provide a boost to local businesses.

"The flood defence work hasn't just had a small impact, it has had a massive impact on the town so if this shuttle bus will help reduce traffic whilst still bringing in visitors then I am 100 per cent in support of it."

Passengers will be able to leave their cars at the Running Horse on Long Bank or The Bewdley School on Stourport Road and enjoy a convenient ride into town.

The shuttle bus is funded by Bewdley Town Council and operated by Diamond Buses underscoring the council's commitment to promoting community well-being and economic vitality.

Owner of Piccolos, Phil Vickery, said: "I definitely strongly support the plans for a free shuttle bus. Local parking in the area is a big issue so letting people leave their cars at the school is a good idea.

"I am fully in favour of the plans."

Mayor Sarah Billett of Bewdley Town Council added: "We are thrilled to introduce this trial shuttle bus service.

"Our goal is to make it easier for people to access Bewdley's vibrant local businesses and attractions while reducing traffic congestion and supporting the town during important infrastructure projects."
