In efforts to raise awareness and funds, an animal rescue is set to host a community market.

Greatfield Small Animal Rescue, launched by Lyndsey Hill in 2020, will host the market at St Peter's today (Saturday, April 27).

Its facilities serve as a sanctuary for small domestic animals needing rehoming from Kidderminster and beyond.

The team working at Greatfield aims to be understanding towards pet owners who surrender their animals due to unforeseen circumstances in life.

In 2023, despite the hurdles thrown by the COVID-19 pandemic, the rescue used the extra time to grow its foster network and fundraising activities.

Thanks to the commitment of the owner, her family and community, an additional housing facility was built to accommodate more pets.

488 animals were rehabilitated and rehomed by Greatfield in 2023.

Owner of the rescue, Ms Hill, said: "We are striving to be a voice for small animals; as they are often the most overlooked pets.

"There is a lot of conflicting information on the care and welfare of small furries and we aim to help to alter this by providing up-to-date and accurate support.

"We are keen to offer advice and support to pet owners of rabbits, rodents and birds regardless of whether they were adopted from us or not."

Wyre Forest District Council’s Community Builder recognised the need for additional funds for Greatfield back in 2023.

In support, residents organised a tombola event at St Peter’s Community Church Hall monthly market, accumulating a total of £397 in support of the rescue.

At the upcoming market, residents are encouraged to contribute towards the rescue by adopting their small pets, volunteering, or through donations.

So far in 2024, the animal rescue has managed to rehabilitate and rehome 141 animals.
