A new online service has been launched to help people check for and fill gaps in their national insurance record.

The Check your State Pension forecast, a collaborative endeavour by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), was launched yesterday (Monday, April 29), with hopes of helping people increase their state pension.

Nigel Huddleston, financial secretary to the treasury and Mid Worcestershire MP, said: "Having peace of mind when planning for retirement is crucial to ensure people can enjoy later life.

"That’s why HMRC has launched this new online service today, making a real difference for thousands of pensioners in their retirement while providing certainty to those in their middle years and those still planning ahead."

The tool allows customers to view and address NI gaps by paying voluntary contributions via GOV.UK or the HMRC app, with the current deadline for voluntary payments set at April 5, 2025.
