A brand-new luxury sandwich shop is set to officially open its doors in Bewdley.

Philling's Bespoke Sandwiches will welcome customers for the first time today (Wednesday, May 1) following a 10-week transformation of the site on Load Street.

The shop, which was taken on by Phill Bennett in February, is set to offer a variety of products from baguettes and sourdough to poke bowls and gluten-free options.

Mr Bennett, aged 47, from Kidderminster, said: "I've been working in the industry for about 30 years now and I also run Footprint Catering Ltd. The idea for Philling's came when I was sitting in the barber's shop.

"All the clients were enjoying sandwiches but were complaining that the orders were wrong. The owner of Outlaws and Kings turned around and said to me 'Phill you need to open a sandwich shop' and the idea just grew from there."

The premises was previously a phone shop and has undergone a complete refurbishment over the past few weeks.

The business is set to cater for all allergy and dietary requirements with products including the poke bowls being available for those who are health conscious.

Customers will be able to buy and takeaway sandwiches from the menu or choose their own fillings.

There will also be a specials menu called the Fab Five which will change each week.

Mr Bennett, who grew up in Bewdley, said: "There really will be something for everything and all of our ingredients are sourced locally. We have bread from Ashley's bakery, fresh produce from Bewdley Farm Shop and meat from Francis and Griffiths Butchers.

"My shop is all about giving back to the town and part of that is supporting other local businesses in the area.

"The community are very close to my heart and I just can't wait to get the shop open."

Mr Bennett is the third generation in his family to lay roots in Bewdley as his parents were publicans and his grandparents were also traders in the town.

He will be supported in the shop by his colleague Lindsey Chance who Mr Bennett said "might be even more excited than me about the opening".

The news of the shop has already received an incredible amount of support on social media and Mr Bennett has thanked the community for their support.

He added: "The support has just been overwhelming. One of the posts got shared more than 150 times and 23,000 people saw it. The messages have been really lovely and a lot of people have said it is exactly what the town needs.

"I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone for showing such an interest in the business and for all their support. I'm a bit nervous about the opening day but I'm also really excited and I hope we get a great turnout and continue to create loyal customers."
