Tributes have been paid to a sporting stalwart who was well-loved in the community and almost "destined" for a professional sports career.
Paul Booton played cricket for Worcestershire, Kidderminster and Bewdley and was the youngest player in the Birmingham League when it sat below professional-level cricket.
Mr Booton, who has been described as a "well-liked" local character, also played rugby for Kidderminster Carolians, table tennis in the Kidderminster League and most sports for Brintons where he was a production manager for more than 30 years.
He passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 12 aged 84.
His family said he was destined for a career as a professional cricketer but "decided that proper work would pay more" so he became a technical dyer at Brintons.
His son, Andrew Booton, said: "He was a well-liked character locally. Going into town with him was frustrating because he'd stop every few yards to say hello to someone he had played sport with or a work colleague.
"He seemed to know everyone. If there was a ball to be kicked, hit or thrown, he'd played it."
As well as his sporting triumphs, Mr Booton was transport manager for TP Activity Toys in Stourport.
He was also an active supporter of Kidderminster Cricket Club and Kidderminster Harriers and a committee member and bass singer for the Kidderminster Male Choir in his retirement.
Funeral details will be announced shortly.
