A PLAN to convert a dilapidated shop into a bar in Bewdley has been approved.
The change of use proposal aims to bring the grade II listed building at 2 Severnside South "back to its former glory" after remaining semi-derelict for a number of years.
The site was formerly the S R Lewis fishing shop and had a residential property above the store.
The plan for the building was submitted by The Courtyard, a restaurant located next door at 3 to 4 Severnside South, and will see the retail space turned into a bar with internal alterations and letting rooms above.
In the design and access statement, the applicant said: "Refurbishment will provide an opportunity to improve the character of the area by bringing an existing period property back to its former glory without too many external changes.
"Our clients have a vested interest in not letting it continue its decay and therefore this application should appeal to both planning and client in its viability.
"Overall the proposed works will enhance and preserve the integrity of the building and surrounding area."
The redevelopment of the site will include the installation of a new glazed roof to the rear where the existing roof has collapsed and internal alterations to provide toilets and seating areas.
The new bar will be used as a link to the original restaurant next door, The Courtyard, and any food will be prepared in the kitchen of The Courtyard and brought through into the bar.
The application states there will be no cooking in the proposed building and the existing access to the site is to be retained due to its listed status.
The plan was fully approved by Wyre Forest District Council on Friday, May 31.
