THE Rose in Kidderminster has announced its opening play for the new theatre season.
'Home, I’m Darling' is described as a funny, thought-provoking play by Laura Wade and it’s the opener for the Nonentities Society, the amateur dramatic company based at the theatre.
Explaining the new play, a spokesperson for the theatre said: "Despite living in the 21st century, Judy’s dream is to preside over the perfect 1950’s house and be the ideal wife for husband Johnny to come home to at the end of a hard day’s work in his 2020 estate agent’s office.
"Every marriage needs a little fantasy to keep it sparkling. But behind the gingham curtains, being a domestic goddess isn’t as easy as it looks. Her friends approve of the frocks while Judy’s mother is infuriated by such blinkered nostalgia.
"The immaculate vintage veneer is showing signs of cracking.
"The stage at the Rose is in the process of being transformed into that dream retro house; jives are being practised and cocktails shaken.
"Come and join Judy and Johnny, their friends and family in a bobby dazzler of a play".
The opening night is Monday, September 9 and it runs until Saturday September 14, which coincides with open day at The Rose which runs from 10am to 2pm.
