A popular paddling pool in Stourport will not reopen this summer.

Stourport Town Council has confirmed that Riverside Paddling Pool will not be able to reopen this year due to repair work which needs to be completed by specialist contractors.

Repairs to the pipeline are needed underneath the paddling pool whilst a sustained period of clear, dry weather will be necessary to re-lay the pool’s surface.

A spokesperson for Stourport Town Council said: "Stourport-on-Severn Town Council recognises the Riverside Paddling Pool as a valuable asset to our town, cherished by both residents and visitors.

"Repairs to the pipework underneath the Riverside Paddling Pool have been identified and we have been working closely with our contractors to develop a plan for reopening the paddling pool.

"However, after careful consideration, we regret to announce that the Riverside Paddling Pool will not open this year. The required repairs must be carried out by specialist contractors, whose availability means the work cannot be completed before the end of summer."

The padding pool will re-open at the start of summer 2026, but flooding might impact the timeline.

The town council said the decision was "not taken lightly".

The news comes following a town council meeting in March where quotes for repairs to the paddling pool were discussed.

During the meeting, the council said a quotation of £33,000 plus VAT had been received which would address the existing issues with the underground pipework.

A further quotation of £55,000 plus VAT was received to replace the flooring of the Riverside Paddling Pool.

A discount of £35,000 would be applied to the invoice to cover the cost of the flooring laid last year.

The town council added: "The paddling pool will re-open at the start of Summer 2026. Our contractors have advised that a sustained period of clear, dry weather will be necessary to re-lay the pool’s surface. Given its location near the River Severn, there is a possibility that flooding may further impact the timeline.

"Stourport-on-Severn Town Council would like to reassure residents and visitors that we take our responsibilities seriously.

"This decision was not made lightly and has undergone full and careful consideration."
