A KARATE instructor has achieved a prestigious rank after 30 years of dedication to martial arts.
Sensei Justin Thomas, founder and head instructor of Young Gloves Karate in Kidderminster, has been awarded the Sixth Dan Black Belt in karate.
Mr Thomas began his martial arts journey in the early 1990s at the Karate Temple in Digbeth, Birmingham.
He enjoyed competition success in his early years, winning numerous awards in both karate and kickboxing.
In 1999, he founded Young Gloves Karate, a club focused on respect, perseverance, and personal growth.
He has taught and mentored hundreds of students, many of whom have become national and international champions.
Outside the dojo, Mr Thomas has helped Young Gloves raise more than £80,000 for local children’s charities.
Reflecting on his promotion, Mr Thomas said: "Achieving this rank is a personal honour, but it’s also a reflection of the journey I’ve shared with so many incredible students over the years.
"Martial arts has given me so much, and it’s been a privilege to pass that on — not just as technique, but as confidence, discipline, and character."
The rank is a significant achievement in martial arts, typically awarded to those who have demonstrated decades of commitment, leadership, and contribution to the art.
It recognises not just technical ability, but a lifetime of teaching and service.
