HUNDREDS of people gathered in Kidderminster today to mark Remembrance Sunday.

Crowds gathered outside of St Mary's and All Saints church as the parade congregated outside the war memorial.

Hymns were sung, wreaths were laid, and the town fell silent as the community remembered those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the country.

Thanking everyone for attending, Kidderminster Town Council said: "A huge thank you to everyone who participated in and attended this year’s Kidderminster Remembrance Parade and Service.

"It was truly moving to see such an incredible turnout from across our community, all coming together to honour those who have served and sacrificed for our freedom.

"Kidderminster once again showed its unity, gratitude, and pride as we remembered the bravery of those who gave everything for our country.

"Your support and respect made today’s commemoration deeply special."

Bill and Jane Charles had come over from Stourport to attend today's event, and said it went "very well".

Mr Charles said: "As the state of the world is now, I think it's more important to keep these sort of things going year by year than it's ever been.

"I think there is more interest now than there was when I was a boy.

"I was born after the war, but it seemed to almost disappear, but I think it's got more popularity now than it's every done."

Greg Palmer, who has attended the parade every year, described this year's event as a "testament to the town".

He said: "It's so important that we remember the sacrifice made, not just in the two world wars, but ever since.

"My own son served in Afghanistan and it makes me proud that Kidderminster turns out so well for this parade.

"I've been told it's among the third best attended parades in the West Midlands , so Kidderminster has done itself proud."
