A climate emergency action plan with the aim of making Kidderminster Town Council carbon neutral by 2030 has been unanimously approved by members.
Mayor of Kidderminster Councillor Doug Hine said the introduction of the plan outlines the "urgent and significant" threat posed by climate change.
The action place will be published shortly on the Kidderminster Town Council website and features other items which includes:
- Ensuring all council policies align with the climate emergency commitment
- Exploring solar and wind power generation on council land and buildings
- Encouraging increased use of public transport
- Supporting allotments and domestic food production
- Encouraging community orchards and tree planting to include fruit and nut trees
- Participating in emergency planning with the Environment Agency, other councils and emergency services for extreme weather event
Councillor Doug Hine said: "The introduction to our plan briefly outlines the urgent and significant threat posed by climate change. With this plan we join with over 600 councils across Britain – big and small – covering 96 per cent of the population who are setting ambitious targets and taking meaningful action."
Councillor John Beckingham, chairman of the council's operational services committee, said: "Not only are the measures in our plan beneficial to the planet, but they will save Kidderminster Town Council and our residents money through energy and waste efficiencies; and contribute to our vision of healthy and happy neighbourhoods."
