Going on a winter walk in the countryside can be the perfect way to spend time with family and friends as the festivities start to wind down.

Whether it's a stroll along the canal on Boxing Day or seeing in the New Year with a walk in Clent Hills, there are more than 3,000 miles of footpaths and bridleways to be explored in Worcestershire.

With that in mind, we've compiled a list of some of the best walks to try according to Visit Worcestershire.

Wyre Forest

Escape to the forest and enjoy a selection of walking, cycling, running and horse routes as well as GoApe! where families can climb to the top of the treetops with its interactive high ropes course.

Visit Worcestershire recommends the Dowles Brook path for "adventurers", where visitors can visit follow the stream as it snakes through the heart of the forest.

They said: "Whilst walking, you will discover Knowles Mill, which is an 18th-century historic watermill operated by the National Trust."

A large pay-and-display car park is located at the visitor centre.

The Malvern Hills

Climb to the highest point in Worcestershire and take in the beautiful views with walks to cater for all ages and abilities.

Visit Worcestershire said: "Expect to find hidden pools, views across to Wales when the weather is good and make sure to take plenty of photos when you reach the top."

Stourport Basins

Visit Worcestershire recommends the Basins for a more "leisurely, shorter walk" along the waterways.

A walk around the canal systems can be an enjoyable but fascinating visit with plenty to see and do.

There is also plenty of wildlife for visitors to spot including otters, wildfowl and bats.

Chaddesley Woods

An ancient woodland near Bromsgrove, it is the second largest in Worcestershire with an extensive network of paths.

With the Chaddesley Chase circular route passing through the woods, it’s the perfect destination for those more experienced hikers looking for a longer passage.

Visit Worcestershire recommends that wheelchair and buggy users stick to the main stoned path.

Clent Hills

The hills offer views to explore looking out towards Shropshire, Mid Wales, Worcestershire and the West Midlands.

Visit Worcestershire said: "From Nimmings Wood Car Park, a walk towards the four stones offers incredible views on a clear day and is a must when visiting. There are also a number of excellent country pubs within walking distance."
