Two penguins waddled into a care home and melted the hearts of residents.
The surprise visit took place at The Gables Rest Home after staff arranged the animal encounter with a local wildlife sanctuary.
Kim Northwood, manager at The Gables Rest Home, said: "It was magical.
"The penguins brought so much happiness, and it reminded us all how important it is to bring these kinds of special moments to our residents.
"They deserve all the joy they can get."
The penguins, described as 'an adorable double act' were brought into the care home by animal handlers as residents looked on in delight.
The birds seemed to enjoy the interaction, pausing to explore and gently interact with residents.
Ms Northwood said she knew the penguins’ playful nature would be a hit with the seniors, and the reaction did not disappoint.
Many residents smiled, laughed, and pointed as the birds waddled around the room, a few even sitting up straighter in their chairs to get a better look.
One long-term resident described the visit as "the best surprise."
They said: "I’ve never seen penguins before. They are so cute, and their little waddle made me laugh so much. It made my day."
Under the careful supervision of handlers, residents were allowed to gently touch the penguins.
As the birds were led back to their carriers at the end of the visit, residents gathered at the window to wave them off.
The experience lifted spirits and created lasting memories for everyone involved.
One resident said: "I’ll remember this day for a long time. It’s not every day you get to meet a penguin."
