An update has been issued on the future of a heritage museum in Kidderminster following its closure at the end of last year.

The Carpet Museum Trust has thanked the community for its outpouring of support following the closure of the Museum of Carpet in December.

It was announced in November that the museum in Stour Vale Mill would be closing on December 20 after 13 years of serving the public.

The Trust said the museum had faced significant financial challenges in recent years and it had become "unsustainable" to continue operations at its current site.

In an update this week, Geoffrey Gilbert, chair of the board of trustees at the Carpet Museum Trust, thanked people who had visited and contacted them since the closure was announced and that the trustees and volunteers would be meeting next week to look at options for the future of the site.

He said: "The Carpet Museum Trust would like to express a huge thank you to all those who have visited and contacted the Museum over the last month since our announcement that we would have to close. Trustees, volunteers and staff have been very heartened by the outpouring of public support.

"We acknowledge as well the support and advice offered by town, district and county councils and councillors. Our thanks, too, to our local press, BBC Hereford and Worcester and BBC Midlands Today for reporting on our situation and raising awareness of our position.

"In response to this the Trustees and Volunteers will meet in early January to discuss options for the Museum in 2026. An announcement about any developments will be made as early in January as possible."

The Carpet Museum Trust said it will continue to be responsible for the management of its archives, displays and collections at the museum.
