IT can’t be a coincidence that we have seen an increase in the amount of localised flooding, both on housing estates on the outskirts of Stourport town — in areas that have been historically subject to flooding — and the appearance of floods around new building developments in the town.

I will mention the new build at the junction of Vale Road and Gilgal and the building erected on the old Tan Lane infant school together with the flood alleviation work that is taking place alongside the new medical centre — a clear case of closing the door after the horse has bolted.

The question I ask myself is how much consideration or forethought is given to water drainage and potential flooding before building takes place and of course how much of this consideration is acted on when building commences?

In tandem with this is there a programme in place where whichever council is responsible for the cleaning and unblocking of drains does so?

I see the recently-repaired potholes on the river bridge are lifting again and will need redoing as a matter of urgency before damage is done to a vehicle and/or someone is injured.

I trust this has been noted and the appropriate action is in place.
