A football club has named its new mascot in memory of a teenager from Kidderminster who died from Meningitis B.

Wolverley FC says their new mascot has been named 'Swazza the Swan' in memory of Aaron Mills, who died at the age of 18.

According to Aaron's mum Deniz Mills, the teenager earned the nickname during his time at King Charles I School, where he became known for scoring goals with 'swaz' on the school Astroturf.

The club said: "A little while ago, we asked for your suggestions to name our new mascot.

"We had some great ideas sent in, but after much deliberation, we’ve decided to name him 'Swazza'.

"Swazza was the nickname of our former Swans 4 All young mentor, Aaron Mills, who sadly passed away at the end of last year.

"He was so named for the curl he used to put on shots when playing football.

"Our mascot, Swazza the Swan, is named in Aaron’s honour."

Aaron died from Meningitis B in January, and since his death, his friends and family have taken on several fundraisers on behalf of Meningitis Now in his memory.

The 18-year-old's family have also searched for ways to immortalise their beloved son, and say they have been 'really touched' by Wolverely FC's decision to name their mascot after Aaron.

"We are really touched that Gavin and the rest of the club have named their new mascot after Aaron," Deniz said.

"Anthony [Aaron's dad], Aaron and Casey [Aaron's sister] all helped with the coaching at Wolverley during their Swans for All sessions on Monday evenings until Aaron set off for University.

"Casey also played for the club, and I was on the committee when the club first started, so Wolverley FC has always been part of the family."
