PUPILS at a Kidderminster primary school, and their family members, have shown their 'community spirit' after taking part in a litter pick on Earth Day.
The litter pick was organised by Franche Community Primary School and saw pupils from all year groups and their family members, equipped with litter pickers, gloves, and bags, clean the area near the school.
According to teacher Charlotte Lenton, the school's Earth Day initiative was 'warmly welcomed' by residents, with the event creating a 'real sense of togetherness'.
"The initiative, organised by the school, aimed not only to improve the local surroundings but also to encourage families to take an active role in caring for the planet," She said.
"Throughout the week, the streets, parks, and public spaces were buzzing with activity as families collected litter.
"Local residents warmly welcomed the effort, with many expressing their gratitude and admiration for the families taking part.
"The event created a real sense of togetherness, showing how small actions can have a big impact when a whole community gets involved.
"School leaders praised the turnout and the enthusiasm shown by both pupils and their families, noting how the day reflected the school’s values of responsibility, respect, and environmental awareness.
"The community was noticeably cleaner, and participants were left with a strong sense of pride in what they had achieved."
Earth Day 2026 was themed on 'Our Power, Our Planet', which focused on how 'environmental progress doesn’t depend on any single administration or election and is sustained by daily actions of communities, educators, workers, and families protecting where they live and work'.
According to Charlotte, this theme was at the heart of the school's litter pick.
She said: "For Franche Community Primary School, this Earth Day initiative was more than just a litter pick - it was a celebration of teamwork, family involvement, and a shared commitment to looking after the world we live in."
Earth Day was marked on Wednesday, April 22.
