A 'rare' World War II Enigma machine is set to feature at an event in Kidderminster.

The event, which will take place at a meeting of the Wyre Forest u3a branch, will be held at 2pm on Monday, June 15, at the Kidderminster Harriers Social & Supporters Club off Hoo Road.

The event will be hosted by Dr Mark Baldwin, also known as 'Doctor Enigma' and will give local history buffs the chance to see the 'rare' Enigma machine.

Dr Baldwin is an experienced speaker who has already delivered over 1,000 presentations on Enigma, Codebreaking and related subjects, in Austria, Belgium, Canada, Germany, Ireland, Poland, Slovenia and the United States.

The Enigma machine was a 'complex and ingenious' coding device that the Germans believed would provide total security for millions of their wireless messages, but British brains at Bletchley Park were able to decrypt the code.

Allied efforts to crack the Enigma code were immortalised in the 2014 film, The Imitation Game, which features Benedict Cumberbatch, Keira Knightley, Mark Strong, and Charles Dance.

Ahead of the event, Dr Baldwin expressed his excitement at being able to explain more about the Enigma machine and the 'amazing story' of those who were able to crack the Enigma code.

He said: "I'm looking forward to the u3a meeting on June 15 because I find that u3a audiences are always attentive and keen to know more.

"And of course, I enjoy sharing the amazing story of Bletchley Park and the Enigma machine."
