A Post Office branch in Bewdley has announced its closure date.
The future of the Post Office branch inside the Morrisons Daily convenience store on Load Street has been in doubt after the supermarket chain announced plans to shut around 100 loss-making stores.
Morrisons has previously revealed that the store on Load Street was on the list of proposed closures with the Post Office now confirming that its branch inside the store will close on August 1.
A spokesperson for the Post Office said: "Our retail partner has reviewed their Morrisons Daily store operations and has decided to close their store at Bewdley.
"Consequently, the Post Office branch at this location will close on 1 August. We fully recognise the inconvenience this will cause our customers and small businesses who rely on our banking and parcel services in particular.
"We will soon be advertising the vacancy for the branch on our runapostoffice.co.uk website shortly. We welcome applications from nearby retailers looking to host a Post Office inside their store."
Alternative branches in the area include:
Burlish Park Post Office, 14-20 Calder Road, Stourport-on-Severn, DY13 8QD, which is 2.3 miles away.
Kidderminster Post Office, 19 Vicar Street, Kidderminster, DY10 1DD, which is 3.15 miles away.
Morrisons said the shops set for closure have been "unprofitable for years" and were former McColl’s shops, which the chain rescued in 2022.
A petition was previously launched by Wyre Forest MP Mark Garnier and local Bewdley councillors to protect the "critical services" offered by the Post Office and ensure another branch will open in the town.
The petition received more than 1,500 signatures.
Morrisons have been contacted for a comment.
