RESIDENTS have reacted to a call for the introduction of residential parking permits on a street opposite Kidderminster Hospital due to visitors 'occupying all available spaces' to avoid hospital parking fees.
Naomi Sutton has called for the implementation of residential parking permits on Crescent Road in Kidderminster and has set up a Change.org petition, which, at the time of writing, has been signed by 53 people.
According to Naomi, she has received 'multiple parking fines' as a result of being forced to park her car elsewhere when there are no available spaces on the street.
Naomi says that she believes the parking issues stem from Crescent Road being located directly opposite Kidderminster Hospital, and visitors parking on the road to avoid paying parking fees at the hospital.
"We believe that residents should have first rights to park on their own street," Naomi said.
"The current situation is not only frustrating, but also unfair to those of us who live here.
"Many of us face unnecessary fines and daily stress due to the inability to find parking close to our own homes.
"This inconvenience has escalated over time and is now affecting the well-being and peace of our community."
After the Kidderminster Shuttle reported Naomi's call for the introduction of a residential parking system, readers and local residents have been torn, with some backing the idea and others asking why residents should have 'special rights'.
Daniel Thompson said: "I agree something should be done, but you'd get 1x pass per house, so multi-car houses wouldn't get endless passes.
"So you have a different issue then.
"Not sure what the ultimate answer is."
Pauline Bridgeman said: "I agree with you, I live in Franchise Street and I can never park near my house."
Millie Fox said: "I used to live down this road and lived there knowing full well that people for the hospital will park there.
"The car park being free isn’t the issue; it's the fact there are not enough spaces.
"It needs a multi-story."
Alistair Hunter said: "Sorry, why do the residents think they have special rights on a public road?
"It's a public road; everybody has and should have the same rights to park there."
David Vass said: "My view is that if you want to be able to park your car outside your house, then buy a house with a drive or a garage."
