A pub in Kidderminster has been named runner-up in a regional Pub of the Year competition.

The King and Castle in Kidderminster impressed judges in the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) West Central Region's 2026 awards, which celebrate excellence in real ale, cider, hospitality, and community pubs across Oxfordshire, Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, and Worcestershire.

Brett Laniosh, regional director for CAMRA's West Central Region, said: "These awards recognise some of the very best pubs and clubs in the West Central Region.

"Each winner has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to serving quality real ale and cider while providing a welcoming atmosphere and playing an important role in its local community.

"Congratulations to all our winners and everyone involved."

Located beside Kidderminster's mainline station, The King and Castle is known for its distinctive railway theme, transporting visitors back in time with its recreation of a Great Western Railway terminus refreshment room.

The pub serves up to eight cask ales and a selection of traditional still ciders, alongside basket meals, cobs, and bar snacks.

Its unique location and character make it a popular stop for both rail enthusiasts and real ale fans as it serves as the gateway to the Severn Valley Railway.

The overall winner of the Pub of the Year title was The Alma in Linton, Herefordshire.

The Alma, a free house on the edge of a picturesque village, is known for its friendly atmosphere and consistent quality.

It features a front bar, a pool room, a wood-panelled restaurant, and a function room.

The pub serves freshly prepared pub classics and seasonal specials.

A programme of professionally organised events and festivals takes place in its extensive grounds.

Elsewhere in the region, Dursley’s The Hoptician took home the title of Cider Pub of the Year.

The micropub, which opened in May 2024, stands out for its real cider selection and warm hospitality.

Cookley Sports Club in Kidderminster was named Club of the Year.

The club offers a lounge bar, snooker room, two meeting rooms, and an outdoor terrace with spectacular views across north Worcestershire.

Regular beers from Wye Valley Brewery and Hobsons Brewery are complemented by three changing guest ales.

Visitors are welcome as guests, and CAMRA members are admitted on production of a valid membership card.
