A KIDDERMINSTER street is set to close for three days next month as work is carried out to install a new water connection.

Worcestershire County Council has made a temporary traffic order for Coventry Street, in the town centre, which is due to come into force from Wednesday, September 16.

The closure will affect the section of Coventry Street between its junctions with Blackwell Street and Waterloo Street.

The work is being carried out by Severn Trent Water and is expected to last for three days, although the legal order can remain in force for up to 18 months if required.

During the closure, a one-way traffic restriction on Coventry Street will be temporarily suspended.

This will allow two-way traffic on the street so residents and businesses can continue to access properties while the works are under way.

A signed diversion route will run via Blackwell Street and the A456 Ringway.

The council said the temporary closure is needed to allow the new water connection to be completed safely.

Elsewhere, several public rights of way in the Wolverley and Cookley area are also set to close from September 15 for up to six months to allow tree-felling and extraction work.

The proposed order covers the full lengths of Bridleway WC-545 and Footpaths WC-558 and WC-560, close to the county boundary.

Worcestershire County Council said permissive alternative routes will be available.

The closures will allow access to properties or land where there is no alternative route, as well as access needed for the works to take place.
