TRIBUTES have continued to pour in following the death of a 'much-loved' former Stourport fish and chip shop owner.

Pantelis Makry, or 'Uncle Pat' as he was affectionately known, died on Sunday (September 13).

According to Pat's family, he had been a well-known figure in Stourport for 46 years after taking over Pat's Fish Bar in 1980.

Pat ran the fish bar bearing his name for 35 years before selling it to his family around 10 years ago.

Following Uncle Pat's death, Pat's Fish Bar closed on Monday (September 14) before reopening today (Tuesday, September 15).

The news of Uncle Pat's death led to an outpouring of sympathy from locals, with many describing him as a 'top gentleman' and a 'legend', and tributes continue to pour in.

Jean Stobbart said: “One of Stourport’s best-loved characters, such a lovely man who our family considered a friend from when our son Paul worked for him nearly 40 years ago.

“All our family send our thoughts and love to Pat’s family at this very sad time.”

Gary Danks said: “I worked for Pat peeling the spuds in the early 80s when I was at school. Pat was very good to me.

“Sending my deepest condolences to his family. RIP Pat, a true gent.”

Mary Packwood said: “Only one word, legend.”

Brian Glass said: “I'm very sad to hear of Pat leaving us; my thoughts are with all his family. God bless.”

Alison Davies said: “Very lovely man, a true gentleman. RIP Pat.”

After receiving the heartfelt messages, Pat's Fish Bar was keen to thank the community for their support.

Writing on social media, they said: “Thank you to everyone for your kind messages, love and support. It means more to us than we can say.

“Rest peacefully, Uncle Pat. Forever in our hearts.”
