Visitors flocked to the Severn Valley Railway this weekend to enjoy a special event celebrating diesel locomotives.

The heritage railway hosted its Autumn Diesel Bash from October 1 to October 4, featuring an intensive four-day programme dedicated to its own diesel fleet.

Running between Kidderminster and Bridgnorth, the event showcased a wide range of locomotives operating a packed timetable along the railway’s 16½-mile route.

Gus Dunster, chief executive officer of the SVR, said: "We’re incredibly proud of our diesel fleet, and this year’s Autumn Diesel Bash gives us the perfect opportunity to let it shine.

"There’s something particularly exciting about seeing a whole range of locomotives from our own collection working together in an intensive timetable."

The heritage railway boasts the largest collection of operational Class 50 locomotives in preservation, as well as rare Western Region diesel-hydraulics, including Class 52 Westerns, a Class 42 Warship, and the sole surviving Class 17 Clayton.

Mr Dunster said: "Our diesel locomotives are maintained and operated by an incredibly dedicated team of staff and volunteers.

"They are a vital part of keeping the railway running, as we’ve seen during the recent extended period of hot, dry weather when diesel traction has stepped in to operate all our passenger services."

There's still time to enjoy the Autumn Diesel Bash today (Sunday, October 4).

Tickets can be purchased from the booking offices and the timetable is scheduled until 7.30pm.
