A family-run salon in Worcestershire has thanked the community for their 'overwhelming' support after it was left with an estimated £10,000 in damage following a burglary.

Cutting Edge, which is based on Tanhouse Lane in Redditch, was burgled and had its door smashed in the early hours of Thursday (October 15).

According to the business's owner, Zoe Gardner, till drawers containing £110 were stolen during the burglary, and damage worth an estimated £8,000 to £10,000 was caused to the salon.

"All the windows, which are laminated and really thick, have been smashed," Zoe said.

"I have had this salon for 21 years, and it has been in its current location for 13 years, and I have never had anything like this happen.

"As a salon, all of the staff, past and present, we have always done stuff for the community.

Some people just drop in here for a chat; we put on functions, but do you know what hurts more than anything?

"If someone was really that desperate, I would honestly not tell anyone; they could approach me, and I would help them.

"There is no reason to destroy the front as they have.

"It's a horrible feeling."

In the aftermath of the incident, Zoe says she has been 'overwhelmed' by the support she has received from the community, with people 'that don't even use the salon' dropping in to pass on their best.

She said: "We have had beautiful remarks from people that we don't even know and people that don't even use the salon.

"I can't believe the response we have had; it has been amazing.

"It is overwhelming, the amount of people we have had drop in and message us; it is overwhelming how people are there to support us."

Zoe was also keen to thank West Mercia Police for their swift and empathic response to the incident.

She said: "The police were fantastic with me; they all had so much empathy.

"An officer stayed with us all day, and they were just amazing with me."

After the incident, West Mercia Police have confirmed that an 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "Anyone with information can report it online, Report a crime | West Mercia Police, and quote reference 22/100717/26."
