A petition to prevent the 'cancellation' of the hit BBC series DIY SOS, which has been backed by a lifelong fan from Stourport, has been signed by over 40,000 people.

Graham Ford, a self-taught gardener and horticulturist who has been a viewer of DIY SOS 'since it started', has backed the petition, which was started in response to the BBC's decision to 'rest' the beloved series in 2027.

Graham was also involved in the DIY SOS build in Bewdley in aid of 11-year-old Nathan, who suffers from up to 200 seizures a day, and his family, which was filmed in 2024 and will officially air on BBC One on Tuesday, October 27.

According to the BBC, the decision has been made in light of the broadcaster's 'savings challenges'.

At the time of writing, the DIY SOS petition has been signed by over 40,000 people, including Graham, who says that there 'isn't another programme like this anywhere'.

Speaking previously to the Kidderminster Shuttle, Graham said: "I have always wanted to be a part of DIY SOS, not to be on the TV, but as I feel it's a fantastic opportunity for a group of like-minded tradesmen to all have the chance to contribute their skills and their knowledge for a worthy reason and for a community to help neighbours that they may have never met or spoken to before in their hour of need."

"Everyone keeps their own problems to themselves and their families, but this programme offers them the chance to share their struggles and ask for help, which can be so difficult to do."

"It is not a TV show; it's a community service, and it brings out the best in people, and that is why I wanted to be involved and why I feel so strongly about the BBC's decision to stop it."

"There isn't another programme like this anywhere, so let's fight for it because I am, and I am not alone."

In light of the petition, the BBC confirmed that DIY SOS will 'rest' in 2027 but has not been cancelled, and a new spin-off show will revisit the successes from the show's past.

A BBC spokesperson said: "In light of the BBC's savings challenges, we have taken the decision to rest DIY SOS in 2027 and commission a new spin-off show instead from producers South Shore."

"DIY SOS Rebuilt My Life (w/t) will revisit successes from the show's past and expand the brand on the BBC in a more cost-effective way next year."
