RESIDENTS and community groups in parts of Kidderminster can now apply for grants of up to £20,000 to support local projects.
Two new funding schemes have been launched through the Birchen Coppice Pride in Place programme, covering Birchen Coppice, Rifle Range, Silverwoods and parts of Foley Park.
The schemes aim to help residents and organisations develop projects that benefit their neighbourhoods.
Microgrants of up to £500 are available for individuals, groups of residents and voluntary organisations planning smaller activities.
Larger grants of between £500 and £10,000 are available to community organisations for running costs and activities, while capital projects can receive up to £20,000.
Funding could support youth activities, environmental improvements, community gatherings, volunteering, health and wellbeing projects and skills development.
Richard Collie, chairman of the Birchen Coppice Pride in Place Neighbourhood Board, said: “Local people know their neighbourhood best and there are already lots of people with ideas about how we can make it an even better place to live."
“These grants are about helping people turn those ideas into something real.”
The funding forms part of the government’s Pride in Place programme, which will see approximately £19.6 million invested in the area over 10 years.
A neighbourhood board, largely made up of residents and community representatives, will help guide decisions about the funding.
Councillor Dan Morehead, Wyre Forest District Council's cabinet member for economic regeneration, planning and the green agenda, encouraged residents to apply.
He said: “This is a great opportunity to get funding directly into the hands of local people and organisations who can make a difference.”
Applications will be assessed against the programme’s aims and available funding, with projects expected to primarily benefit residents in the designated area.
