THE headteacher at Wolverley CE Secondary School has hailed the “significant improvement" his students have made in this year’s GCSE results.

The school set a target of 40 per cent for those gaining five or more A* to C grades including English and maths, which students have exceeded by achieving a 43.2 per cent pass rate.

In 2007, this figure was 35.6 per cent and headteacher, Kevin O’Regan, said: “This significant improvement is a superb achievement as the re-organisation of Wyre Forest education created some considerable issues to deal with.

“It represents a huge amount of work by students and staff and I congratulate them. I am certain the results will improve again next year.”

Initial analysis indicates last year’s figure of 52 per cent of students gaining five or more A* to C grades, regardless of English and maths, has risen to 53 per cent.

Three students between them achieved 30 A* and A grades in their GCSEs this year. Jessica Wyer achieved 11 A* and A grades, Zoe Smith gained 10 A* and A grades and Harriet Fox received 9 A* and A grades.

Mr O’Regan said: “The results achieved by Jessica, Zoe and Harriet are outstanding and are clear evidence that able students do well at Wolverley.

“I am very proud of them and very proud too of all our students who have achieved excellent results in relation to expectations.”

The school also entered a class of year 10 students for the English GCSE one year early. Of the 30 students entered, 26 achieved A or B grades with the remaining gaining pass grades.

“This is a fantastic achievement and further evidence of the high quality of education at the school,” said Mr O’Regan.
