A KIDDERMINSTER contact centre set up so youngsters can meet with a parent they no longer live with is proving a success, according to the organisers.

More than 42 children have visited the centre at Trinity Methodist Church since it was launched in September last year through Churches Together.

Rev Mary Austin, chairman of the management committee, said: “Families experience a warm welcome into the hall where there is a whole variety of play equipment from air hockey, table football and snooker to toddler sit and ride toys, books, puzzles and craft activities.

“Refreshments are available at no cost and these have recently been expanded to provide a cup of soup and toast.

“If parents do not want to meet each other the centre is set up to prevent that happening.”

She added: “The delight on the faces of children who may not have seen Dad or maybe Mum for sometime is enough evidence of the value of such centres which enable these crucial relationships to continue and grow.”

The centre is open from 2pm to 4pm on the first and third Saturday of every month and is staffed by a team of trained volunteers.

People who are interested in becoming a volunteer at the centre should contact Derek Austin on 01562 823300.
