CLEOBURY Mortimer’s largest employer has been allowed to secure its future by being given permission to develop a redundant part of its site.

Commenting on last night’s South Shropshire District Council decision, Ludlow MP, Philip Dunne, said: “I am pleased the council made a sensible and pragmatic decision last night to help secure jobs at Muller, the largest manufacturing business in Cleobury Mortimer.

“Having visited the company earlier this week, it became clear to me that change of use planning consent was vital to protect this business and the 60 skilled jobs, mostly in precision engineering at the plant.

“With the difficult economic conditions we face at present, we need to do what we can to safeguard jobs, not pile on the pressure through blinkered adherence to doctrinaire policies designed for booming property market conditions.”
