A CREATIVE outdoor extravaganza will be staged in Bewdley this weekend.

Sabrina and the Engineer, which celebrates the river and its relationship with the Industrial Revolution, will be performed on Saturday as part of the Severn Project.

A colourful procession to music will kick off the event at the Severn Valley Railway, in Bewdley at 6.30pm.

It will make its way to the river where there will be magical fire and water displays, at 7.30pm.

The event also marks the launch of the Cultural Olympiad, a four-year celebration of culture and creativity across the UK, running from September 2008 until the end of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Loz Samuels, arts and play officer for Wyre Forest District Council said “This processional spectacle is not only part of the West Midlands celebration of the launch of the Cultural Olympiad, it’s also the first encounter between Sabrina and the Engineer – a meeting that will culminate with a dazzling finale of light and music.

"There are lots of ways for everyone to join and make the event sizzle and sparkle even more”.

The Severn Project provides and creates annual outdoor performances and events for the communities living alongside the River Severn.
