A KIDDERMINSTER flat went up in smoke in the early hours of this morning when a candle was left burning.

It is believed the householders of the Mill Street property had fallen asleep while the candle was sill alight in the balcony area.

Three firecrews from Kidderminster, Stourport and Bewdley attended the scene at 3am.

They spent 90 minutes putting out the blaze, using breathing apparatus and a hose reel.

Crew manager David Pearsall said there was smoke dmage to three rooms and fire damage to one room.

He added that people should not leave candles burning while unatteneded.
