AN event organised at Kidderminster Golf Club has resulted in 74 boxes of goods being delivered to soldiers serving in Afghanistan.
Martin Hartill, a caterer at the Russell Road-based club, provided a free meal with a “wartime theme” to club members who “paid” by donating boxes filled with chocolates, razors, sun cream, toothbrushes and other general and luxury items.
He explained that six catering staff worked for free during the event on Saturday which was attended by more than 70 people.
He added that the parcels were now on their way to soldiers from the Mercian Regiment.
Mr Hartill said: “I was very pleased with the event. People were more than willing to give (the box items) and to support the cause and everybody had a good time.
“It is just something to help them along and make life a bit easier. People added a personal note in their boxes to wish them well and give them a little moral support.
“They are having a hard time over there and I just hope this will cheer them up a little bit.”
