MORE than £1,300 was raised for the appeal as people flocked to 10 Wyre Forest gardens.

Kidderminster Horticultural Society’s popular Garden Open Day featured a range of flowers, plants and produce.

Proceeds from ticket sales and a raffle totalled £4,000, which was split between the appeal, Dial-A-Ride and Acorn’s Chidren’s Hospice.

Society member Sue Cooke said more than £30,000 had been given to charities from the event over the last 12 years.

Organiser Louise Aston said the day was a “fantastic success”, adding: “Everyone had a great time and we were pleased to raise so much money.”

The cosiety's annual show, in the grounds of the Ramada Hotel, Habberley Road, takes place next Saturday and Sunday.

It will be opened by Christine Walkden, gardening expert on BBC’s The One Show and will feature displays of fruit and vegetables, a craft fair and raffle, with music provided by saxophonist Sam Pagett, of popular jazz duo Sax and the City Chic.

The show will run from 10am to 5.30pm. Anyone wanting to take part should call Louise Aston on 0156269115 or email suesgarden@blueyonder.co.uk
