ON June 11, Wolverley held its field events prior to the main annual sports day, writes SARAH WHITE.

The weather was great and all the year groups took part, busily throwing javelins, putting shots, flinging discuses and tossing cabers.

Thanks to the close supervision – and occasional intervention – by Miss Hodgetts and her trusty sports captains, there were no accidents and the events proceeded smoothly.

Two weeks later, the whole school gathered on the field for sports day, during which the track events took place.

Again, the weather was beautiful (although rather hot for the competitors who were racing around the field!) and the spectators – some wearing their house colours – enjoyed watching the races, cheering on their respective houses.

This year, parents had been invited to attend and they joined in the cheering with great enthusiasm.

As usual, the events were rounded off by the annual staff versus students tug of war.

Again, the staff were successful – thanks in no small part to Mr. Rouse, who has clearly been in training all year for his position as team anchor!

Attwood House racked up 1,672 points and was declared the overall winner – to the delight of all Attwood students and the grudging admiration of Knight, Woodfield and Sebright students.

Ben Haywood and Kady Donohue accepted the winners’ shield on behalf of Attwood House.

The annual Victor Ludorum awards for valued contribution to sport went to Brandon Clist and Molly Law, both year eight, and Tanith Hooren and Josh Addison, both year 10.
