SISTERS Amelia and Charis Hancocks have had their hopes of becoming international judo stars for Great Britain given a lift after they were awarded £200 each by XPRESSION scheme.
The pair have gone from strength-to-strength training and fighting for Kidderminster’s Samurai Judo Club over the last two years.
Amelia, 16, has been selected for England’s world class start programme and has won two international medals.
She also finished fifth at the Heart of England Championships.
Meanwhile, 15-year-old Charis will be attending Olympic squad sessions at Dartford, before competing in the international competitions in Inglemunster and Venray.
The grants will go towards new competition kits and travel costs for both Wolverley High School students.
Mother Sue Hancocks said: “We’ve never had a grant before so it was great to get a lift. The girls have done really well in the last few years and they are now trying to get more international experience.
“The cost of travelling and kits is big so this is a godsend.”
