THE name of every Kidderminster Territorial Army soldier to go on tour this decade is featured on a new honours board.

The board, housed at the TA’s Birmingham Road base, was unveiled at party on Friday night for nine troops returning from Afghanistan and their families.

Sgt Mark Stout, a permanent staff instructor, said he felt the board was “important”, to give some of the soldiers recognition.

“They all got a medal but it’s good that their names will be on the board,” he said, “People can look at it in the future and say that was their uncle or dad.”

Sgt Stout, 38, said the men from F (Fire Support) Company 4 Mercian were “very relieved” to be returning from Afghanistan, adding: “It’s a very demanding place so they’re all obviously pleased to be back and safe.”

They got home the day after Lance Corporal Richard Brandon’s funeral but Sgt Stout said they were all still “determined” to carry on in the TA.

“They all want to continue in their course and they are looking forward to going on more operations in the future,” he added.

Originally from Nottingham, Sgt Stout, who was in the regular Army for 19 years, has toured Bosnia, Northern Ireland, Afghanistan and Cyprus.

“It’s a good job - there’s always something different to do and that’s what I like about it,” he said, “I’ve had postings all over the world and it’s been great.”
