WYRE Forest District Council has appointed a new Chief executive.

Ian Miller, 44, was appointed by the council last night.

He is currently programme director for Renaissance, South West and leads a regional partnership of five museum services.

He has more than 20 years experience working in the public sector, including seven years as chief executive of Denbighshire County Council.

The recommendation to recruit him to the post was ratified at a meeting of the full council.

Mr Miller said: "I am delighted and honoured to have accepted the appointment of chief executive of Wyre Forest District Council.

"The district has many exciting opportunities but also faces some significant challenges over the coming period.

"It has impressed me that councillors and employees have a "can do" attitude and are determination to succeed.

"I am looking forward very much to joining the team and working with them, local residents and other partners to make Wyre Forest an even better place to live, work and visit."

The Leader of Wyre Forest District Council, Conservative councillor, John Campion, said: “We are extremely pleased to welcome someone of Ian’s calibre to Wyre Forest District Council.

"Ian’s wide experience means we have recruited a first class individual with a public sector background who can build on the work we’ve been doing on the major projects and tackle the challenges ahead.

"We’d also like to thank Diane Tilley, who has been acting as Interim Chief Executive. Her work has given Ian an excellent platform to keep moving this Council forward. ”

Mrs Tilley will continue in the role of interim Chief Executive until Mr Miller takes up his post. His start date has not been confirmed, but it is hoped to be during December.

Howard Martin, leader of the Independent Community and Health Concern group was also on the appointments committee. He said: “Ian’s appointment was made with cross party support.

"He has proven leadership qualities which will be invaluable and his wide range of skills will ensure that Wyre Forest District Council moves forward with confidence.”
