WYRE Forest Play Rangers are out and about this autumn offering children who have little or no play provision opportunities to play close to their homes.

The activities include arts workshops, sports and outdoor activities such as den building to creative play and pottery making.

The project is organised by Wyre Forest District Council in partnership with Borrowers Toy Library thanks to funding from the Big Lottery Fund.

It is in its second year, with funding guaranteed for another year. Since the project got underway in June 2008, they have provided more than 130 sessions for children throughout the district.

The Play Rangers encourage children to try new activities and also address issued such as bullying and anti-social behaviour. The sessions are free and open to all children aged 5 and over.

Conservative Marcus Hart, the district council’s cabinet member for community and partnership services, said: “The Play Rangers work to help the children find fun things to do in their local area, and create a safe place for children to play freely.

“The project brings many benefits for children and parents. The children gain greater social skills and respect for others and their environment through play.”
