A RECOVERING cancer patient will be going over the edge for charity when she abseils down the Abberley Clock tower this summer.

Libby Tassell, 40, will be facing the 141 ft descent in August for the Worcester-based St Richard’s Hospice, The emergency planning officer, who also lives in Abberley, received support from one of the hospice nurse specialists when she was diagnosed with cervical cancer.

The mother of three was also a member of the St Richard’s Snowdrop Group for women recovering from cancer.

She said, “I’m really excited about the abseil. I can see the Clock Tower from my home and drive past it regularly. The children know we are nearly home when they see it.

“I love the Clock Tower. I went up it for the first time in November on, unfortunately, a very foggy day. Just climbing the stairs was a challenge in itself but the biggest challenge for me will be going over the edge.

“I am only 10 months post surgery so it will be a challenge but one I am going to relish - I'm still here to do it. My three children and husband are all very proud of me and will be there to support me on the day to see my descent.”

Mrs Tassell added: “Having regained some of my strength, I wanted to give a little back to the hospice for the help they continue to give on my own cancer journey and that of friends currently coping with the effects of this disease.”
