WYRE Forest residents will go to the polls at the General Election on May 6, it has been announced.

The voting will be held the same day as Wyre Forest District Council’s election, in which a third of all seats are up for grabs. There will be 14 district council seats contested across 14 wards in Wyre Forest.

Five people have so far declared they will stand in the General Election, including Independent Community and Health Concern’s Dr Richard Taylor, who is looking to serve a third straight term as Wyre Forest MP.

The other candidates are Conservative Mark Garnier, Labour’s Nigel Knowles, Liberal Democrat Neville Farmer and Michael Wrench, of the UK Independence Party.

Other General Election candidates could still come forward before nominations close on Tuesday, April 20.

All district council nominations must be made by Thursday. A full list of district council candidates will appear on kidderminstershuttle.co.uk and in The Shuttle next week.

April 20 is also the deadline for residents to register to vote in both elections. People can apply for a postal vote online at wyreforestdc.gov.uk or an application form can be requested by phone on 01562 732739 or by emailing electoral@wyreforestdc.gov.uk.
