A KIDDERMINSTER paramedic is teaming up with one of his colleagues to cycle from Worcestershire to Devon in aid of Help For Heroes.
Gary Jones, based at Kidderminster Ambulance Station and Kevin Cole, from its Evesham equivalent, are both members of West Midlands Ambulance Service.
They will be joined by Rachael Pryce, previously based at Kidderminster and now a paramedic with South Western Ambulance Service.
They will set off early on Friday from Kidderminster, stopping overnight at Bridgewater in Somerset. They hope to arrive at their destination of Barnstaple on Saturday in the afternoon or early evening.
Their journey will include the A38 through Tewkesbury and Gloucester, the A48 to Chepstow, the cycle path of the M48 crossing the mouth of the River Severn and the A39 coastal road to Barnstaple via Porlock Hill.
Mr Cole said: “I’m ex-Army and this is a charity close to my heart. Gary and Rachel are both cyclists and we discussed whether we should walk, run or ride the route. We chose to bike it, I didn’t fancy the other two options.
“We chose to take the coastal road because although it’s 20 miles further and includes Porlock Hill, it is a more pretty route.”
Following the cyclists will be a support vehicle and fund-raisers collecting money along the route.
