STUDENTS at The Bewdley School and Sixth Form Centre are celebrating a star performance, with some achieving the new A* grade at A level.

Callum Wilson achieved A* grades in maths and PE and an A in physics and will study mechanical engineering at Loughborough University. He said: “I am overwhelmed, as I have done better than I had expected.”

Sophie Powell picked up A grades in English literature and language and psychology and a B in French. She is off to Royal Holloway University of London to read French with film studies. She said: “I am very excited as I got into my first choice uni, which I had my heart set on.”

Students who took a year out to gain work experience have also been rewarded. Ben Prince has obtained a place to study medicine at Southampton and Sophie Allan will be studying veterinary science at Bristol.

Headteacher, Julie Reilly, said: ”I am delighted with the results and absolutely thrilled with the volume of A* candidates and the number of students who are going to their first choice universities.”

Assistant head, Paul Ramage, said:”We are very pleased with both AS and A2 results and wish to congratulate staff and students alike on their hard work and dedication. Percentage pass rates improved significantly this year at both AS and A2, enabling the majority of our students to achieve their university of choice.”
