The Bishop of Worcester will open new classrooms at an Areley Kings primary school on Friday.

An official opening ceremony of the extension, at St Bartholomew’s CE Primary School, will be led by the Rt Revd John Inge, at 2pm. The Mayor of Stourport, local councillors, children and parents will attend.

The extension, which was completed in June, ready for the start of term, is part of the Church school’s ongoing drive to raise standards and develop the provision offered to children in the Areley Kings area.

It houses a new early years’ unit and In-B-Tweenies, a specialist provision for two-year-olds. After school club, Whizz Kids, ran a full-time holiday club at the school during the summer.

Head teacher, Sue Helps, said: “It’s wonderful to be able to capitalise on a fabulous new early years’ unit with a high ratio of staff to children. We offer the very best quality of provision for our community, with teachers from schools across Stourport and Worcestershire arranging visits to learn by our example. The children are really enjoying using the new facilities and the vast space available to them.”

St Bartholomew’s has also recently become a forest school and this has been the focus of curriculum planning for the coming year.

Mrs Helps added: “Children of all ages will experience an innovative approach to learning both indoors and out.”
