A CHILDREN’S choir from Uganda will tour Wyre Forest schools and churches giving workshops and performances.

Pearl of Africa Choir will tour the area between Thursday and next Wednesday to raise funds to support the Molly and Paul Childcare Foundation, which was established in 1983 to build homes and schools for orphaned and destitute children in the Kampala and Masaka districts of Uganda.

The children’s first concert will be at Winterfold House School on Thursday and they will hold workshops or concerts at schools including Wolverley Sebright Primary School, the Knoll School, Alverley Primary School, St George’s CE Primary School and Nursery, Wolverley High School and the Wordsley School.

They will also perform at St George's Church, in Kidderminster and St Michael's Church, in Norton.

At some schools, the choir will give day workshops where Ugandan children teach English children African drumming, song, dancing, games and beadwork.

They also take part in cultural exchange where the choir compare their school lives with those of English students.

Children who have learnt songs during the morning workshops are invited to perform with the choir in the evening concerts.
