THE fiancee of a Kidderminster soldier killed in Afghanistan said the hero would have been “proud” of her and their daughter for fronting the national Poppy Appeal.

Emma-Jayne Webster features in a poignant poster with four-year-old Kaitlin, as part of the Royal British Legion’s (RBL) campaign.

The charity has been a constant support to the 28-year-old since L/Cpl Richard Brandon’s death in September last year and the mother of three was “honoured” when they asked her to take part.

The poster shows Ms Webster and Kaitlin putting flowers down at L/Cpl Brandon’s plaque at Stourbridge Crematorium, on the anniversary of his death.

She said: “They [RBL] were looking for something that me and Kaitlin were willing to share with them that was symbolic to Richard. I said that I had a plaque at the crematorium which I had put up for the children.

“The poster is symbolic to me because it is a poignant moment. I really like that plaque and thought it was ideal to share with them.”

As well as the poster, Ms Webster will also feature in the RBL’s first TV advert to raise cash for wounded troops and bereaved families.

She explained: ”I wanted to help the RBL highlight that the charity is for everyone - past, present and future.

“I have been in touch with the Ombersley [RBL] since Richard died. They’ve been a big support and helped me with paperwork.”

She added: “ It’s a great honour to be involved in the campaign because the Poppy Appeal is something Richard always supported.

“If he went into town and saw someone selling a poppy, he would spend an hour talking to them.

“He’s always supported the appeal so I thought it would be good to take part.

“I think Richard would have been really proud of us - especially Kaitlin. She’s been really good and really enjoyed it.”

L/Cpl Brandon, 24, was killed when his vehicle hit an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Helmand Province. A memorial service will be held at St Mary’s Church to honour the hero, on November 27.
