BUILDERS and housing chiefs enjoyed a crowning moment as work got under way on new low-cost homes in Kidderminster's Coro-nation Way.

Seventeen homes will be built, featuring a mix of two, three and four-bedroomed properties, which will be available for rent or ownership.

To mark the beginning of the £1.5 million development of the former Comberton Arms pub site, representatives of Thomas Vale Construction and Wyre Forest Community Housing were present to see the start of the work last Friday.

The scheme, due for completion in May next year, has been partly funded with a grant from the Housing Corporation.

Fran Oborski, who chairs Wyre Forest Community Housing's management board, said: "This exciting new development brings a range of quality, affordable homes to local people and our shared ownership option will give that much needed first step on the housing ladder.

"Our new homes are extremely energy-efficient, with stylish and modern fixtures and fittings. We have incorporated ideas from our existing customers into the design to ensure that they are practical homes, which are suitable for modern living."

Ian Cox, partnership and development director of Thomas Vale, said: "This project marks another milestone in the relationship between Thomas Vale and Wyre Forest Community Housing.

"We have a large amount of experience in partnering with local authorities and local housing associations and are proud to also be playing such an integral part in this housing scheme, which will have a beneficial impact on the local area and provide new homes for local people."
