KIDDERMINSTER residents are up in arms after a popular walkway that has been used for generations was blocked off.

People have been enjoying walks along the Hurcott Pasture for years but the privately-owned land between Podmore Pool and Hurcott Pool has now been closed to the public, said Steve Walker, Broadwaters Independent activist.

He added that a no entry sign was put up on the land last month, leaving residents furious.

“It’s a walkway that’s been used by residents for generations,” said Mr Walker, “The residents can’t believe that the landowners have denied them access through the signs that they have put up.

“It’s a site that’s been used by youngsters for generations. They have now grown up and have always walked there.”

He added that hedges around the field had also been destroyed and removed.

He went on: “The people of Broadwaters think it should be a right of way again. I’m disgusted that the walkway has been blocked off and that they’ve put up a sign about tresspassing when it’s been a walkway for generations.

“I think more care and attention should have been taken before blocking it off.”

He added that he would be speaking to Worcestershire County Council to see if the land could be designated as a walkway.
