PUPILS and staff at Wyre Forest primary schools joined thousands across the country in an attempt to break the world record for simultaneous dancing.
At St. Bartholomew's CE Primary School, in Stourport 264 children and staff took part in the National School Sport Dance by performing a set routine designed by young ambassadors at a recent conference in Edinburgh, which was inspired by the Olympic and Paralympic values.
Meanwhile in Bewdley, every child at St Anne’s CE Primary School was performing the same dance along with members of staff.
More than 55,000 participants from about 362 schools or groups synchronised their dances at 11.40am, last Wednesday. (January 19) The time, 20 to 12 signified the year of the London Olympics and the date was 555 days before the event, which symbolised the letters SSS for Support School Sport.
The National School Sport Dance event was organised to celebrate the power of school sport in uniting people and to showcase the strength of the School Sport Partnership Network in light of proposed cuts to funding for partnerships.
The event had three main aims, to further physical activity opportunities for young people, to raise the profile of School Sport Partnerships and attempt a world record for simultaneous dancing.
